Congratulations go to past Inverell resident, Brett Drewitt, on his winning of the Lincoln Land Championship on Father’s Day with a four round 19 under par. Brett picked up a cool $A150 000 and a bonus from Srixon after a 3 under par in the final round. This gave him a one-shot win after a player from the final group missed a birdie putt on the last hole which would have forced a play-off. The Lincoln Land Championship is a golf tournament on the Korn Ferry Tour held at Panther Creek Country Club, Illinois.

This was his first win on tour since his win in the Wuhan Open during the 2014 PGA tour of China. This win gives him a start in his quest to reclaim a spot in the 2020-21 PGA Tour season. He was last part of the PGA tour in 2017.

Brett’s world ranking dropped from 815 down to 389th after his Lincoln Lands Championship win. He has played 10 events this year with this one win and two other placings in the top 10. This was his 13th consecutive event and he has made the cut 6 times in that period.

Brett was the Inverell junior club champion in 2006 and the junior and senior club champion in 2007. He received a scholarship with the Long Reef Golf Club in Sydney at the age of 16. His parents would regularly drive him to Sydney for the weekend to play pennants for the club while he was in years 11 and 12 at Inverell High School. On completion of his HSC he worked as a barman at the Long Reef club.

He did tours of the UK and America during our winters of 2008 to 2010.

In 2010 he started playing pennants for the Waverly Golf Club in Melbourne. They would fly him from Sydney to play for their club.

He has now been touring the US for 7 years.

While not touring with Brett, his wife and child are in America with him giving Brett a chance to catch up between events. Another lad from Inverell, Cameron Wyper, is with him at the moment and performing caddie duties.

Player movement, in and out of the PGA tour group, has been put on hold for 12 months during COVID19. The only way that a player can move into the PGA group prior the 2021-22 tour is by winning 3 Korn Ferry Tour events. Otherwise players will have to wait and finish in the top 25 of the Korn Ferry Tour by the end of next year.

Players from South American, China and Canadian tours can also qualify for the PGA under the same conditions.

Brett has just finished another tour match. This one started at the Chicago Highlands Club, September 10. He started with a 3 over par and then came in with 6 under par on each of the next two days. His final round was 1 under par leaving him 10 under and equal 19th for this event.
